commissioned
by The King's School, Canterbury (to mark the opening of King's
Week on Friday 27 June 2003); duration: c.3'
A fanfare for 4 trumpets, 2 French horns, 2/3
trombones, 2 suspended cymbals, 1 snare drum. The opening image
is of a passing siren; the rest of the music expands that moment
outwards, and in the final section the action is frozen mid-cadence.
Behold, I shew you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we
shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,
at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead
shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
