This anthem is a setting of Jesus's challenging
words to the sister of Lazarus "I am the Resurrection and the
Life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall
he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never
die. Believest thou this?". The middle section depicts Jesus's
own grief at Lazarus's death and finally he commands him to come
forth from the grave. There is a brief quote from Machaut's Mass.
