hymn with its deliberately earthy harmonies has been altered and extended several times over the years
since it was written (some time before the summer of 1989),
and features in the final movement of Music
for a Large Audience.
Lord,
who by your perfect offering once for all on the cross
Opened wide your arms in dying, gave us life we once had lost;
Lord, we pray you, help our brother, wipe the tears from his eyes;
Lord, then he will soon discover where your perfect freedom lies.
Lord, who by your resurrection, first of all Adam's seed,
Burst the bonds of death's corruption, gave the hope that we all
need;
Lord, we pray you, help our sister, take the pain from her heart;
Lord, your Spirit will assist her as she takes her special part.
Lord, we pray you, come in glory, show your face to us now;
Lord, without you, faint and weary, we in adoration bow.
